  12. Deepest sympathy to Eric and Ford family. First met Martin half a century ago in Sligo Library. Was trying to absorb Ted Nealon’s great analysis of voting patterns in the 1973 general election while Martin tackled World War battle intricacies in Berlin. We stayed friends.

His line on politics and protests infuriated some as much as he inspired others over the decades. He spoke his ‘spake’ fearlessly. He utilised every form of media – poetry, pen, placard, he utilised local and national media, north and south.

Glad to say we published his first poems in Leitrim Observer way back in 1975. He was doubly proud because his mum was a county native. Seen his most recent, among hundreds of poems since, on display in the front porch at St Anne’s church.

Sligo Weekender told all aspects of his compelling life story over four pages in its issue dated October 14th 2021. Martin’s was a race well run and may he now Rest in Peace.
