Loving husband of Sarah and dear father of Johnny, Carmel Kane, Tommy, James, Eileen Feeney and Sarah Hynes.
He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, sons, daughters, daughters-in-law Veronica and Geraldine, sons-in-law John, Jack and Gerry, grandchildren Tara, Monica, Kayleigh and James, Johnny Michael, Ryleigh and Ashleigh, brother Noel, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at his son’s residence, beside his own residence (F91 DD2E) on Wednesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral will arrive to St. Anne’s Church, Sligo on Thursday morning at 11:00am for Requiem mass. Funeral will arrive to The Church of The Sacred Heart, Fairymount, Co. Roscommon at 2:00pm for friends and neighbours to sympathize with John’s family. Funeral will then proceed to Fairymount Old Cemetery for burial.

So sorry to hear of the passing of John. I’m a great friend of Tommy and Sara Gilligan. I would often meet Tommy and John at the Greenvale Townhouse diner on Long Island, New York. John would share great stories and tell funny jokes. John had great character and a wonderful smile. I had the chance to see John in Sligo, Ireland where I visited this summer and stayed at Tommy’s house The Shamrock. I fell in love with Sligo such a beautiful place and now know why John loved Sligo as well. My deepest condolences to the entire family

John Patrick Gilligan was a great man and will be deeply missed not only in Ireland, but also here in the United States. He delighted those of us on this side of the Atlantic with his Irish whit, his charm, and his fun-loving spirit. This ethos lives on in his daughters, Eileen and Sarah, who are highly successful real estate agents in New York, and his son, Tommy, who is an outstanding and flourishing contractor.
